To speak with tongues and the Baptism
of the Holy Spirit is more than just being born again
of the Holy Spirit. It is a total immersion of The Holy
Spirit. The very word baptism means to be fully whelmed
or immersed as with water baptism.
What is it about it that makes
it so necessary to our walk with the Lord?
- It
Is a vital part of our spiritual foundation –
Hebrews 6:1-3.
- It
delivers about God's supernatural power – Acts
1:8
- It
helps to Purify us – Matthew 3:11-12
- It
builds and strengthens our faith – Jude 1:20
- It
helps us pray God's will – 1 Cor. 14:2,15
- It
brings about a deeper level of intimacy with God
– 1 Cor. 14:2
- It
brings us about a deeper level of revelation of God's
Word – 1 Jn 2:20,27
- It
brings rest to our souls – Isaiah 28:11-12
As we have seen it is God's desire for
each one of us to be filled to the fullness. It
is when we receive this special gift with the
sign of to speak with tongues that continually allows
us to be filled with the H.S..
If one experience of being saved
and to become a new creature were sufficient for all
God's purposes then why did Jesus refrain from this
ministry until He was endued with power from on High?
Acts 2:1-4 Then there appeared
to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon
each of them. {4}And they were
all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with
other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Peter identifies this experience
as the Baptism of the Holy Spirit - Acts 11:15-16
The major sign given that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit
had actually come was that they spoke with other tongues,
of which we will discuss later.
There Are Two Distinct
Experiences in the Holy Spirit.
The new convert is saved through the Holy Spirit, but there is yet another
work of grace. We find and example of this in the lives
of the early disciples.
- The early disciples were born
of the Spirit when Jesus breathed on them and said,
"Receive the Holy Spirit".
- Jesus then told these same
disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they receive
the promise of His Father.
The Evidence of the Baptism of the Spirit.
God gives a tangible supernatural sign with your
body. You will speak a language you have never
learned. This is called "speak with tongues".
How Do We Receive The
Baptism of The Holy Spirit?
- Our hearts must be properly
prepared through repentance. (Acts 2:38)
- There needs to be a real hungering
and thirsting for it. (Matthew 5:6)
- Must be a sense of expectation.
(Luke 11:9-13)
- Must be an active response
to your faith. (James 2:20)
