Discovering and Knowing Our Position in God

Bible Study Lessons
Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! They walk, O LORD, in the light of Your Countenance - Psalm 89:15
The dynamic of God is that He is always at work and involved in making plays that bring forth the kingdom in a greater dimension, not only in our lives, but in the people that He puts in our paths. The question is – are we sitting on the bench watching others make the plays or are we in the game making great plays for God? Are we in God’s playbook?

In sports, in order to be an effective player that makes lots of plays, it’s important to know your position and how to position yourself to make the plays.

In Christ we have all been given positions, ministries, gifts and talents that make up our calling in God. We all have a destiny to fulfill.

Romans 12:3-4 (NKJV) For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function...

Treasures from Above by Kenneth L Birks

The devotionals in this book are designed to enhance your relationship with the Lord in all aspects of your walk. Each devotional ends with an inspired poem by Ken that encapsulates the essence of the devotional.

Dr. Jay Zinn, Author/Pastor writes: "There are few authors who can take theology and turn it into a devotinal series of divine, inspiring nuggets and poetry. Ken Birks is such an author who penetrates your heart and soul to want to know God better. I highly recommend his 40 Day Devotional book -- Treasures from Above."

Doug Hartline writes in the Foreword, "It is the incredible poetry, however, that separates this book and makes it stand apart from others. Poetry can shine a light on God's word from a different angle, in a way that helps us to look at it in a much deeper and often more profound way. I invite you to enter into "Treasures from Above" and let Ken's ability to paint with words reveal the treasures of the Word of God to you in colors you may never have perceived before."

The Harvest Field -- by Kenneth L Birks

Looking upward, sensing the hand of God over all, we pursue.
Looking inward, we question, “What’s our part in the harvest?”
Looking outward, the harvest ripe for picking stands in full view.
Looking forward faith arises, as we gain vision and understanding.
Looking backward, sensing the loss of time wasted, we woo.

Ready and willing, we’re shown how to labor, unharnessed.
With inventory tallied; talents, and gifts, He uses for harvest.
With sense of purpose rising within, we commit to Him above.
From wisdom above, treasures given are employed.
Shown purpose for what’s given, fruit comes forth unspoiled.

Into His field, eyes wide open, to those around us, we see.
Pain and turmoil on the faces encountered, we labor to free.
Taking note, hopelessness rests on many walking aimlessly.
Hoping for care, those hungry, stand with signs, shamelessly.
Yes, the fields are white for harvest. Where are the laborers?

Dying to self, taking up His cross, vision, and purpose appear.
Seeing the needs before us, we ask, “What would Jesus do?”
Our part, not to question motive, but to trust in His guidance.
Committing ways to Him, He directs and chooses in alliance.
In obedience and faithfulness, forward we go into His harvest.

Discovering & Finding Our Place in God.

  1. Know Who You Are in Christ
  2. We Must Know God’s Purpose & Will
    in the World Today.
  3. Let God’s Purpose and Perspective
    Fill your Heart.
  4. Have a Heart full of Faith & Expectancy
  5. Don’t Allow the Wounds & Disappointments
of Life to Take You Out of the Game.

John 12:26 "If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me;
and where I am, there My servant will be also. If
anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.

What He is saying here is that He expects us
to be in position, so that we can handle the ball
when it is given to us.

It’s important to know who we are in Christ. We have
been given the mind of Christ and have been made partakers of His divine nature.

2 Peter 1:3-4 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Just as an athlete has to know what he is capable of before making great plays, we must know what we are capable of in Christ.

In 1 Samuel 14 there’s the story of Jonathan and his armor bearer that won a great victory for the nation of Israel. In the beginning of the story Jonathan steps in faith based on what He knew His God was capable of. This helped him to know his position and what he could accomplish from that position.

We are told in Scripture that we are:

  • More than conquerors in Him – Romans 8:37
  • He always leads us in triumph – 2 Corinthians 2:14
  • We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us – Phil. 4:13

This is our position in Christ from which we operate. What can you do for God based on that? The playing field is wide open.

God is desiring to do great things in our lives, so let’s put on the armor of light and be about our Father’s business. He wants to use us and bless us more than we can comprehend or imagine.
