Jesus Christ and His Deity or Divinity Sermon Outlines, Bible Studies

The Teaching Ministry of Ken Birks
Sowing Seeds of Faith

1 Timothy 2:5-6 (NKJV)
For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time

Jesus Christ, Divinty, Deity

Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! They walk, O LORD, in the light of Your Countenance - Psalm 89:15
In everything in our Christian lives, God has determined that the focus should be on Jesus. Our understanding of who Jesus is should leave no doubts that Jesus is God. As a man, Jesus walked our earth and knew our nature and weaknesses. But now, He has returned to "the right hand of the Majesty in heaven." His work has been accomplished through the Blood that was poured out for us. He has provided salvation to make us whole.

This study presents Jesus from two perspectives: John’s gospel and The Book of Hebrews.  The other books of the gospel tell the story of Jesus. but we find John focusing on distinct theological themes, which contrast such terms as life and death, light and darkness, belief and unbelief, truth and falsehood, love and hate.

The Book of Hebrews focuses on the Superiority of Jesus in the sense that Sonship belongs to Him, which emphasizes the relationships between the Persons of the Godhead. We also see that creative power belongs to Him as well as the coming kingdom. The Book of Hebrews also focuses on Jesus, as the Living Word and His ministry as our High Priest. Between these two books we get a clear picture of who Jesus is in all of His glory.

The Gospel of John reveals the deep spiritual and theological teachings of Jesus.

  • John's gospel emphasizes Christ's deity to a greater extent than the others.
  • John began not with Jesus' birth, but with a statement of Christ's pre-existence as God.
  • John's purpose in writing this book was to unveil the Man, Jesus, and to reveal Him as God

John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

John starts out by showing and proclaiming that Jesus was God from the beginning.  He then goes on to show us how to respond, from the heart, to Jesus as Lord and Savior.

As you begin to study and meditate in the Gospel of John, the theme of Jesus, the Living Word, dominates the Gospel of John.  Jesus, full of grace and truth, revealed to us the relationship which God the Father had always yearned to have with humankind.  As His sons and daughters, a way of life is revealed to us by the splendor of grace rather than by human devises.

We must see Jesus as He is, God's ultimate Word of revelation.  We must hear His Word, come to understand and believe in Him.  When we trust ourselves to Jesus, forever, and daily, we will learn what it means to "have eternal life in Him."

The Book of Hebrews begins with jesus becasue total confidence in Him must be the basis of our new life, and of our identity as Christians.

Hebrews 1:1-2 God, who at various times and in various places spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these las days spoken to us my His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds...

In everything in our Christian lives, God has determined that the focus should be on Jesus. Our understanding of who Jesus is should leave no doubts that Jesus is God.

Hebrews 1:2 & John 1:3 are in total agreement, where we see that all things were made through Him, (Jesus) and without Him nothing was made that was made. The entire universe and the natural laws are engerized and held together by the sustaining power that belongs to Jesus.

As a man, Jesus walked our earth and knew our nature and weaknesses. But now, He has returned to "the right hand of the Majesty in heaven." His work has been accomplished through the Blood that was poured out for us. He has provided salvation to make us whole.

1 Peter 1:18-19 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from you aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

Because Jesus is both God and Man, He is an adequate link between us and the Father. We see this in Hebrews 4:16 where it says, "Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time if need."

There are many paths to spirituality, but there is only one path that leads to eternity in heaven with our Heavenly Father. It is the path that is less traveled. The only way to discover it is through Jesus Christ and adhering to the words that came from Him as He began His ministry in Galilee. He came preaching, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Matthew 7:13-14 Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Will you be one of the few who discover this path or will you be among those that spend their lives listening to the myriad of voices within our culture and world who are screaming for your attention? This is a question we must all come to grips with.
